This Week: Reviewing PR #11, Starting TikzForge, Hotspot Snapshot Verified

September 14, 2026 (3w ago)

Three things moved this week. One review, one new build, one verification.

Reviewing PR #11 on omarchy-hotspot

codydon opened PR #11: fix: merge NM unmanaged-devices so ap0 stays unmanaged, fixing #10.

The root cause is real and well-evidenced: NetworkManager does not merge unmanaged-devices across conf.d files — last file wins. Our 99-unmanaged-ap0.conf loses to files like lerd-dns-link.conf, NM re-manages ap0 as type managed, and ip link set ap0 up fails with RTNETLINK answers: Device or resource busy. The PR's direction is right: collect existing entries, dedupe, ensure interface-name:ap0, write to a zz- file that sorts last, remove the legacy 99- file, and verify via NetworkManager --print-config.

I left review blockers before merge:

  1. Don't unconditionally delete ap0 at install time. It kills an active hotspot on reinstall. Guard it — only delete when ap0 is type managed, or skip when the hotspot service is active.
  2. Uninstall must not drop co-tenant entries. Removing the merged file deletes the other plugin's exemption too. Strip only ap0 and keep the rest.
  3. The helper needs a runtime guard, not just install-time. ensure_vif() early-returns if ap0 exists, so a future conflicting conf re-breaks until reinstall. If ap0 exists but is type managed, delete and recreate.

Plus parser nits: exact-match dedupe instead of glob-expanding patterns, split on whitespace as well as ,;, scope to [keyfile] and strip # comments. And live verification is still open: install, print-config showing both ap0 + lerd0, unmanaged __ap vif, working toggle, shellcheck/bash -n clean.

Good contribution, solid diagnosis. Just needs the coexistence story to hold in both directions.

Trying to build TikzForge

New repo: tikzforge — a native desktop app for editing TikZ/LaTeX diagrams with live PDF preview.

The stack is Tauri v2 (Rust) + React 19 + TypeScript + Vite, CodeMirror 6 with custom LaTeX highlighting, Zustand stores, Tailwind v4 + shadcn/ui, Vitest + Testing Library. The pitch is simple: edit TikZ, see the PDF update instantly, with clickable errors, auto-compile debounce, multi-document tabs, SyncTeX forward sync (Ctrl+Click PDF → source line), engine detection, and auto-updates.

Still early — 29 commits on master, scaffolding plus editor/preview/error-list flows going in. The interesting work ahead is the compile loop (pdflatex process management via invoke, log parsing to line numbers) and keeping preview latency low without recompiling on every keystroke.

omarchy-hotspot snapshot verified on the marketplace

The marketplace listing (io.github.shivamnarkar47.omarchy-hotspot) just got its snapshot update verified. That matters because installs pin trust to a reviewed commit — users pulling the plugin get the hardened helper, inline SSID/password editing, and failure surfacing from the last round, not some drifted HEAD.

Good progress after the security-review batch. Next hotspot work is feature work (client list, per-client stats), not cleanup.

What's next

Land PR #11 once the guards are in, keep pushing TikzForge toward a usable compile-preview loop, and leave the hotspot alone unless the marketplace flags something.
